Google leads the competition over other search engines. When you want to look for something over the internet, usually you simply go to Google home page then type in the keywords you want to search. Then in matter of seconds, Google was able to provide you list of links that contain the keywords.
Google continue to seek new ways to improve their services. Recently, ‘Knowledge Graph’ was introduced by Google. A new technology that will make your searches more faster and accurate than ever before.
What makes the Knowledge Graph differ from the previous technology? This new technology search the information you need over the web not just by matching the keywords but also understanding what you really mean and match it to the web pages logically. Also, Google has widened their search coverage and not only based on certain sources like Freebase and Wikipedia. This new search engine technology will get the facts, images and figures from the web pages in the entire web community. This feature is also available on smartphones and tablets.Google said that this is just the beginning of their discovery and creation of new algorithms and technology that will make their web search more intelligent like the way human thinks.

Basically, the three main parts of search engines are the spiders, index, and the search interface and relevancy software.
Spiders work just like regular browsers, they request and read the pages from the web and store the links. The anchor text in these links can help in describing the page, it can also be used in discovering new documents for the next crawl. Spiders follow these links and if they are not yet indexed they are added into the search engine catalog or index. If they already been indexed they are being updated.
The search engine catalog or also called search engine index is where links, description and other contents of the websites are stored. Normally, when you use the search engine, you are just accessing the search engine index and not actually the web. That is why the information might somehow out of date.
The last part is the search interface and relevancy software. This software accepts and check the user’s input. If the software detected that there are misspelled words, it automatically recommends correct spelling variations. This software is also responsible in checking and gathering relevant pages and displaying the results. The results are ranked according to their content, link citation data and usage data.
The page where you can see the lists of relevant pages are called “Search Engine Results Page” or SERP.
Usually, web searchers click only the the links on the first page of the results and does not even bother looking at the next pages. This is the very reason why website owners tend to make a way to make their websites appear on the first page of the search engine results page. One way to make this happen is through the use of Search Engine Optimization (SEO).
Search Engine Optimization is a technique that lets the website owners to build their rank and put their website links in the first page of the SERP. We have discussed earlier that there three primary activities search engines. First , the spider crawls, next is to index then finally rank the web pages. SEO is based on these three activities.
